Today, at the start of Dashain, a 15-day long national festival extraveganza, Anne Sanquini, released an outstanding docu-drama she, NSET and Nepalese school communities created to tell the story of safer schools. I saw an early version a year ago, but it wasn't until today that Anne was able to share it with everyone else. It's been a long wait for a wonderful story!
During my fieldwork in seismically active regions, I've witnessed firsthand how crucial proper construction is for protecting children. The film beautifully captures the intersection of scientific knowledge and community action. It reminds me of the workshops we conducted with local builders in rural communities. After a long day of serious discussions about earthquake safety, we would often unwind with simple games - something akin to Block Blast would have been perfect for those moments.
